DHAKA: In a saddening incident amid the Russian missile attacks in Ukraine, a Bangladeshi sailor lost his life after the ship named Banglar Samriddhi in Olvia seaport came under missile attack.

The missile attack by Russian naval forces led to the death of one of the ship crew members and vandalized the ship.

The Bangladeshi sailor killed in the attack has been identified as Hadisur Rahman, a third engineer of the Banglar Samriddhi ship.

The Banglar Samriddhi ship owned by Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC) was stuck in the Olvia seaport located in the Mykolaiv region of Ukraine as per reports.

The ship was left stranded at Ukraine's port amid the war crisis between Russia and Ukraine going on for more than a week.

According to sources, the naval forces of Russia conducted a missile attack on the huge boat of Banglar Samriddhi which caused massive damage to the ship.

The stranded Bangladeshi ship amid the conflict between two countries was burnt at the seaport and the crew members managed to survive except Rahman.

The crew succeeded in extinguishing the fire that broke out at the ship following the missile attack however it caused extreme loss.

Due to the intense war situation, the BSC, the shipowner cancelled the cargo load plan and instructed the ship's master not to berth rather move to international waters but due to delay in port clearance Banglar Samriddhi failed to leave the port.

The Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways Bangladesh, Khalid Mahmud Chowdary gave confirmation about the news stating that they received the information on Wednesday night.

The ministry was informed about the ship detention by the Ukrainian government and got to know that there was a missile strike on the detained ship.

The crew members surviving the attack are later told that the Bangladesh government stands by them at this difficult time and all measures are taken to bring them back to the country.

MoS shipping minister also informed that the Bangladesh government is in contact with their embassy and the Ukrainian government.
